Mystery challenge, the Andy way

I am participating in the Mystery Challenge blogtour for the first time and I must confess, I had so much fun!

My swap mate gave me the theme Andy Warhole. Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the pop art movement. Amongst a lot of things, he was a painting artist. His most known work is the campbells soup can or his screen printing of famous artists like Marilyn Monroe.

After thinking for a while how I could create an Andy Warhol inspired garment, I found out he also painted Superman! Yay, for me and my son.

I got some nice sweat fabrics at our local market in superman colors and decided on pants. I wanted to try screen printing so I did. But I gave it my own little twist to make it more manageable with kids running around. This is what I did.

1. I used an embroidery ring and some tulle. Next I used a marker to create a the Superman logo on the tulle.

2. I used a red fabric marker and started drawing on the fabric, within the blank lines.

3. Took the tulle off of the fabric and found a screen printed Superman logo. (Maybe not a legit screen print because I did not use normal fabric paint, but my table was still clean and so where the kids…..)

4. Iron the fabric (on the other side of the fabric when the paint is dry) so the paint stays there when you wash it.

5. Enjoy the result.

6. Do it again!

Aww,

so cute! Look at the hands!

(by the way, this pattern will be in testing very soon)

  1. Ahhh die handjes idd… en leuk zo’n challenge! Misschien ook wel lastig, maar in elk geval brengt het je op iets nieuws!

Als je nog een tester kunt gebruiken hou ik me aanbevolen 🙂

    1. Ja lief he 😉

Wat testen betreft. I post de calls in mijn Sofilantjes Sew and Show Facebook group. Kom in de groep zou ik zeggen…..

  2. So cool! I did not know Andy Warhol painted superman!
Such a fun way to do screen printing! I have avoided it because it seems so time consuming and messy, but this is so much easier!
Can’t wait to see the release of the pattern (so fun!)

    1. Thank you. The messy part was what I did not want either. I am so happy this works. I’d love to see your result.
And thank you. So far my kids have 8 new pants and I love them all. Now all I need to do is get the pattern ready. 🙂

  3. What a fun idea, Anne. I think my older kids would love to try out this method – maybe while we are on summer break. I also have a huge Superman fan in my house!

    1. Than you should really try this Bethany. He will love it.

  4. Clever! I like your tutorial, something to put on my “to try” list!

    1. Show when you did. I would love to see what you will make 🙂
