New Release: The Risu Dress

Some of you have already seen The Risu in Anne’s post for Project Run and Play and have asked for the pattern to be released.  Today is finally the day.  The Risu Dress is now available for you purchase!

I am just going to jump right into it.  I know you want to go purchase yours so you can join in our release game in our Facebook group, Sofilantjes Patterns Sew and Show.

The Risu has one length option, one neck option, three sleeve lengths, optional pockets and an awesome criss cross back. We rated it as intermediate, but if you are a confident beginner and take it slowly you will have no problems and if you do have a problem, come see us in the group.  There’s always someone around that will help.

We need some close ups.  Let’s start with the neckline. Aren’t they beautiful?  Our testers always do such an amazing job.

The Risu has 3 sleeve lengths.

Short:

3/4 sleeve:

Long sleeve:

The pockets are always a big hit! See for yourself.

Last but not least…  the BACK!

That is all.  We LOVE this dress.  Our little models love it too. The Risu will be on sale from June 6 08.00 CET (June 6 2:00am EST) through June 10 08.00 CET (June 10 2:00am EST).  The pattern is on sale for €5 – ex taxes (6.05 incl EU taxes), no code needed.

The below links do contain affiliate links, but they take you right to the pattern in the language of your choice. The author gets a small percentage of every sale.

Hear my roar

Let the world hear you ROAR. This is exactly how I feel when I look at this outfit. It is my week 3 competition outfit for Project Run and Play. This week it was something tried and true or something different. I went with different. The last two weeks I have drafted new dresses. This week I drafted nothing new. Not a single piece. You’d think this would save me time but nothing is further from the truth. This week I have spend almost all my free time sewing, but it is done!

Let the world hear you ROAR. Dit is wat ik voel als ik naar de outfit van deze week kijk. Truth or Dare is het thema van deze week. Maak iets ‘tried and true’ of maak iets anders.

I Choose LOVE

Have you heard about Project Run and Play?

It is a competition between seamstresses (they call them designers) around the world. Six designers get challenged to create a look that matches a weekly theme. In total there are four themes and through voting and judges you earn points. The designer with the least points drops out. In the end only one designer will win the competition. Playing along with this competition is a real honor. This season (season 20) PR&P is going Europe and we are invited! Anne will be playing along and hopes to be the last one standing. We’d love it if you follow along and of course, if you like what Anne made, vote for her and help us get to the next week.

The theme for week 2 is Monochrome Mania. In a colorful world, what would you create if you had to choose one?
If I only got to choose one color I’d always choose red. Why, you ask me. Well red is a color that stands for a lot of things. Red stands for life, power, passion, energy and most of all LOVE. Red is fierce. Red is warm. Red is romantic. Red is strong. The color is strong enough to make the most simple item pop. But… if I can only use red, I want to sew something that screams LOVE and what better way to scream love than to dress up the Rainbow baby. This tiny person is our big bundle of love. She is our victory of life. To have her we had to fight, cry, fight and cry even more, but she is here and she is energy. She is strong and so full of love.

Rood is krachtig. Rood is warm. Rood is romantisch. Rood is sterk.

Assignment week 1: Wanderlust
What makes your location special? Explore the uniqueness of your area, share its distinctive personality, and leave your audience craving more.

Have you ever thought about how you can show what makes you location special in an outfit? What is unique about your area and how do I make people want to come and visit? I didn’t. Not ever. So when this assignment came up I had to think hard. What is so special about where I live (other than me living here of course…).

Uhm… Water, bikes, old and new. I can work with that! It so happens that before Miss Rainbow was born I bought this beautiful Nosh fabric (they stopped shipping outside of Finland shortly after). Blue water fabric, because we did not know if we were having a boy or girl. It was perfect for this project. The water fits the many beautiful canals we have. Plus we have a history with sailing overseas. I also had the perfect white jersey to match the white in the Nosh fabric. I bought this from Lillestoff. With these two fabrics I sewed up a new dress design (that I had already drafted before going back to work in February). I call it the Risu Dress. It is designed to fit our Dutch climate and the name, well it fits the girl I designed it for. She is my happy, funny and beautiful Miss Diva. Can you see the little Sofilantjes twist. It has a faux wrap back. I think this completely fits into our culture. It’s a simple dress with just that little bit extra. I talk more about this in the PR&P blogpost I wrote.

Modifying the Back of the Velocitas

Do you love the colorblocking on the front of the Velocitas? Do you want to carry it to the back? Melissa, Amanda, and Deborah have you covered.  We have modifications for the back of BOTH versions of the Velocitas.

Let’s get started.

Option A
We need to prep our new back pieces.

1. Get your back bodice (1) and your front bodice Option A (2).  Place your front bodice piece on top of your back piece matching shoulders and mark where the front bodice ends on your back piece.

2. Now we are going to make your new colorblock piece. Trace the neckline, shoulder, and arm of the back bodice.  Make sure your length matches your front bodice piece.
